אהלות פרק י"ד משנה ז׳
If they did not have a width of a handbreadth, whether there is a space of a handbreadth between them or whether there is not, if there is uncleanness beneath, between or above them, the uncleanness cleaves upwards and downwards. A similar [rule applies] to two curtains, [the lower one of which is] one handbreadth high off the ground.
אֵין בָּהֶן פּוֹתֵחַ טֶפַח, בֵּין שֶׁיֵּשׁ בֵּינֵיהֶן פּוֹתֵחַ טֶפַח בֵּין שֶׁאֵין בֵּינֵיהֶן פּוֹתֵחַ טֶפַח, טֻמְאָה תַחְתֵּיהֶן, בֵּינֵיהֶן אוֹ עַל גַּבֵּיהֶן, טֻמְאָה בוֹקַעַת וְעוֹלָה, בּוֹקַעַת וְיוֹרָדֶת. וְכֵן שְׁתֵּי יְרִיעוֹת שֶׁהֵן גְּבוֹהוֹת מִן הָאָרֶץ פּוֹתֵחַ טָפַח:

אין בהן פותח טפח. שהזיזין אין ברחבן טפח, הלכך בין שהטומאה למטה בין שהטומאה למעלה לא חייצי כלל:
וכן שתי יריעות שהן גבוהות מן הארץ בפותח טפח. וגבוהות זו מזו טפח, דינן כשני זיזין:
אין בהן פותח טפח – that the [wall] projection do not have the width of a handbreadth, therefore, whether the defilement is below or whether the defilement is above, it does not interpose at all.
וכן שתי יריעות שהן גבוהות מן הארץ בפותח טפח – and they higher than each other by a handbreadth, and their law is like that of two [wall] projections.
