Canes which protrude from the aris and one is too concerned for them to cut them short, it is permitted to sow directly beneath them. If he made them [long] so that the new [growth] might spread along them, it is forbidden [two sow underneath].
הַקָּנִים הַיּוֹצְאִים מִן הֶעָרִיס וְחָס עֲלֵיהֶן לְפָסְקָן, כְּנֶגְדָּן מֻתָּר. עֲשָׂאָן כְּדֵי שֶׁיְּהַלֵּךְ עֲלֵיהֶן הֶחָדָשׁ, אָסוּר:

הקנים היוצאים מן העריס. שבולטין חוץ לסדר העריס:
וחס עליהן לפסקן. שלא הניחן שם מחמת שדעתו להדלות עליהן הגפן אלא מפני שחס עליהן בלבד.:
כנגדן מותר. לפי שאינן חשובים מן האפיפירות הלכך מותר לזרוע תחתיהן:
כדי שיהלך עליהן החדש. שידלה על גבן שריגי הגפן כשיצמחו ויגדילו:
הקנים היוצאים מן העריס – that project forth outside the order of the espalier.
וחס עליהם לפסקן – that he did not leave them there on account that it is was intention to suspend upon them the vine, but rather because he refrained from cutting them alone.
כנגדן מותר – because they are not considered part of the lath/slabs used for espaliers, therefore, it is permitted to sow underneath them.
