כלאים פרק ד׳ משנה ו׳
One who plants two [vines] opposite two [other vines], and one [other vine] forming a “tail” behold this is a vineyard. Two [vines] opposite two [other vines], and one [other vine] in between, or two opposite two, and one in the middle, these are not a vineyard until there are two opposite two with one [other] forming a tail.
הַנּוֹטֵעַ שְׁתַּיִם כְּנֶגֶד שְׁתַּיִם, וְאַחַת יוֹצְאָה זָנָב, הֲרֵי זֶה כֶרֶם. שְׁתַּיִם כְּנֶגֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְאַחַת בֵּינְתַיִם, אוֹ שְׁתַּיִם כְּנֶגֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְאַחַת בָּאֶמְצַע, אֵינוֹ כֶרֶם, עַד שֶׁיְּהוּ שְׁתַּיִם כְּנֶגֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְאַחַת יוֹצְאָה זָנָב:
Bartenura
ואחת יוצאה זנב. כגון ג׳ גפנים נטועות בשורה אחת, ושתים בשורה שנייה כנגד שתים מן השלש:
ואחת בינתים. שהשתים כנגד שתים והחמישית כנגד אוירן:
ואחת באמצע. כגון גפן הנטועה וארבע גפנים לארבע רוחותיה:
ואחת יוצאה זנב – as for example, thee vines that are planted in one row, and two in a second row opposite the two from the third.
ואחת בינתים – that the two that are opposite the time and fifth opposite their air space.
ואחת באמצע – as for example, a vine that is planted and four vines for its four directions.
